Η στοχευμένη επίθεση εναντίον Εβραίων που συγκεντρώθηκαν για να
γιορτάσουν μια από τις σημαντικότερες θρησκευτικές εορτές τους, είναι ένα ακόμη
τραγικό αποτέλεσμα της ρητορικής μίσους που διατυπώνεται εναντίον των Εβραίων και
του Κράτους του Ισραήλ και της αδιαφορίας πολιτικών και κοινωνικών φορέων που
την υιοθετούν, την ενθαρρύνουν ή την ανέχονται. Το τρομοκρατικό αυτό χτύπημα αποτελεί πράξη πασίδηλου αντισημιτικού
μίσους και πλήγμα όχι μόνον κατά της εβραϊκής κοινότητας, αλλά και κατά των
θεμελιωδών αξιών της δημοκρατίας, της θρησκευτικής ελευθερίας και της ειρηνικής
συνύπαρξης.
Εκφράζουμε τη βαθιά μας θλίψη και τα συλλυπητήρια των Ελλήνων Εβραίων
στις οικογένειες των θυμάτων, και ευχόμαστε γρήγορη ανάρρωση στους τραυματίες.
Σε αυτές τις δύσκολες στιγμές, στεκόμαστε ενωμένοι με τους αδελφούς και τις
αδελφές μας της Εβραϊκής Κοινότητας της Αυστραλίας.
Τραγωδίες, όπως αυτή στην Αυστραλία, υπενθυμίζουν ότι θεσμοί και
κυβερνήσεις έχουν το χρέος να μην επιτρέψουν στον αντισημιτισμό και την
τρομοκρατία να επικρατήσουν. Εμείς
θα συνεχίσουμε να ανάβουμε τα κεριά του Χανουκά, μαζί με τους συμπολίτες μας,
γιατί εξακολουθούμε να πιστεύουμε στο φωτεινό δρόμο που οδηγεί στην
αλληλοκατανόηση και στην αρμονική συνύπαρξη ενάντια στη ρητορική μίσους και την
τρομοκρατία.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CENTRAL BOARD
OF JEWISH COMMUNITIES IN GREECE ON THE DEADLY TERRORIST ATTACK IN BONDI
SYDNEY
Once again, a Jewish festivity has
been turned into a bloodbath. This time in Australia, on the iconic Bondi
Beach, which at this time of year is illuminated by the candles of Hanukkah,
the Festival of Light. Fifteen people lost their lives and dozens were injured,
many of whom remain in critical condition, during a celebration that symbolizes
the triumph of light over darkness and brings people together, regardless of
gender, race or religion.
The targeted attack against Jews
who had gathered to celebrate one of their most significant religious holidays
is yet another tragic consequence of the rhetoric of hatred directed against
Jews and the State of Israel, as well as of the indifference of political and
social institutions that adopt, encourage, or tolerate such rhetoric. This
terrorist attack constitutes an act of blatant antisemitic hatred and a blow
not only against the Jewish community, but also against the fundamental values
of democracy, religious freedom, and peaceful coexistence.
We express our profound sorrow
and convey the condolences of Greek Jewry to the families of the victims, and
we wish a speedy and full recovery to the injured. In these difficult moments,
we stand united with our brothers and sisters of the Jewish Community of
Australia.
Tragedies such as the one in Australia
serve as a stark reminder that institutions and governments have the duty to
ensure that antisemitism and terrorism do not prevail. We will continue to
light the candles of Hanukkah together with our fellow citizens, because we
continue to believe in the path of light that leads to mutual understanding and
peaceful coexistence, standing firmly against hate speech and terrorism.
