Οι εκθέσεις βιβλίων, είναι χώροι, διαλόγου και ελεύθερης διακίνησης ιδεών που στόχο έχουν την πνευματική κατανόηση διαφορετικών πολιτισμικών και λογοτεχνικών καταβολών.
Οι διαδηλώσεις μίσους κατά των Ισραηλινών και των Εβραίων, και μάλιστα
στην πόλη της Θεσσαλονίκης όπου πριν από 80 χρόνια, 50000 Εβραίοι εκτοπίστηκαν
και θανατώθηκαν στα ναζιστικά στρατόπεδα εξόντωσης, απειλούν την ουσία της
δημοκρατίας και μας υπενθυμίζουν ότι πριν το Ολοκαύτωμα είχε προηγηθεί η Νύχτα
των Κρυστάλλων με τους ναζί να καίνε βιβλία.
Ανησυχούμε ακόμη περισσότερο διότι οι ενορχηστρωτές και οι υποστηριχτές
αυτών των διαδηλώσεων θριαμβολογούσαν για την επίτευξη του στόχου τους να
ματαιωθεί η εκδήλωση με θέμα «Μεταβαλλόμενα τοπία της εβραϊκής λογοτεχνίας»!
Δεν διαφέρουν από τους ναζί που θριαμβολογούσαν για το κάψιμο των βιβλίων!!!
Είμαστε βέβαιοι ότι βρίσκονται στο περιθώριο, και η άμεση παρέμβαση ανθρώπων
των γραμμάτων και των τεχνών απέδειξε ότι η Ελληνική κοινωνία δεν θα επιτρέψει
στον αντισημιτισμό να απλώσει τα πλοκάμια του στη χώρα μας.

CANCELLATION
OF EVENT ON JEWISH LITERATURE
The Central Board of Jewish
Communities in Greece strongly condemns the forced cancellation of the event
organized by the Embassy of Israel in Greece, “Changing Landscapes of Jewish
Literature,” which was to take place within the framework of the Thessaloniki
International Book Fair. Book fairs are meant to be spaces of dialogue and the
free exchange of ideas, promoting the understanding of diverse cultural and
literary traditions.
Demonstrations of hatred against
Israelis and Jews — particularly in the city of Thessaloniki, where 80 years
ago 50,000 Jews were deported and murdered in Nazi death camps — undermine the
very essence of democracy and serve as a reminder that before the Holocaust
came Kristallnacht, when the Nazis burned books.
We are even more troubled by the
fact that the orchestrators and supporters of these demonstrations celebrated
the success of their goal: the cancellation of the event “Changing Landscapes
of Jewish Literature.” They are not different from the Nazis who applauded the
burning of books!!!
We are confident, however, that
they represent only a marginal minority. The immediate and strong response from
members of the literary and artistic communities has shown that Greek society
will not allow antisemitism to spread its tentacles in our country.
